As Digital Law professionals, we follow the evolution of technologies on a daily basis, very enthusiastic about the future to come. We witnessed the birth of disruptive solutions, contributed to the structuring of new digital platforms, accompanied the maturing of discussions with the Judiciary and helped society in building an ethical culture in the digital environment.
However, it is also part of our routine to assist victims of digital crimes of the most diverse natures. And we find that, even in the face of such evolution, something has not changed in this brave new world: gender-based violence against women.
There are hundreds of cases that come to our attention involving women, of different ages and profiles, victimized by harmful conduct practiced through the Internet. Intimate photos published by ex-partner after the end of the relationship, obsessive virtual chase by strangers on social networks, affective relationship in a dating app that culminates in extortion by the one who used a fake profile, montage of a video of fake sexual act, invasion of instant messaging applications to discover non-existent betrayals, etc.
It was before this scenery that we idealized the campaign “Security and Combating Violence Against Women in Digital Media”, with the aim of sharing our knowledge and experience to alert, raise awareness and guide other women as to their rights, as well as stimulate reflection on the need for female presence in the development of new technologies.
The result was the production of 13 thematic articles – signed by our partners, coordinators, associates and interns – which gave rise to an informative e-book for the victims and pondering on our social role in confronting gender-based violence.
